First retirement community offering continuum of care within city limits
Wellmore officially opened a $35 million luxury healthcare and wellness community in Tega Cay, S.C., on Monday, June 22, 2015.
It is the first retirement community within Tega Cay city limits offering a full continuum of care, awarding community members the opportunity to stay in the city they call home as they age and to experience the benefits of emphasized wellness.
Wellmore of Tega Cay, which broke ground in April 2014, is a hybrid wellness and health care model centered on nationally recognized initiatives which extend and improve the lives of older adults. Services include assisted living, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, skilled nursing and rehab.
At the Grand Preview Celebration, Mayor George Sheppard, Rev. Dr. Joanne Sizoo of Grace Presbyterian Church, York County Regional Chamber of Commerce President Rob Youngblood, Vice President of Wellmore Heather Rusnak and Wellmore Chief Executive Officer Donald Thompson, Jr., all spoke about the value Wellmore brings to the community. The ceremony concluded with a formal ribbon cutting.
“It is a very exciting time for the City of Tega Cay [with] the addition of the Wellmore community. It’s something that has been needed in Tega Cay for a long time,” stated Sheppard. “[Wellmore] is just beautiful. The attention to detail in everything is just great. This is first-class. Not only will we now have a senior living community for our residents who do not want to leave the city, but we also have gained a great partner. We are expecting great things.”
Sheppard reflected on community members who were forced to leave their friends and interests in Tega Cay as they could no longer stay in their homes due to health concerns. He added that Wellmore strengthens Tega Cay by being part of a “resident-retention program.”
After the ceremony, local officials, chamber members and guests toured the nearly 150,000-square-foot campus, enjoyed a taste of the fine dining experience, listened to an assortment of live music and met Wellmore team members.
Comprised of a 25,000-square-foot clubhouse, residential accommodations, and on-site wellness center, the community features 80-assisted living apartments including an innovative two-bedroom floorplan and individual skilled nursing, short-term rehab and memory care units with 24-rooms each. The clubhouse offers many notable aspects of a heated therapy pool with ramp entry, gourmet dining, salon services, full-service bar and interior access to all neighborhoods via heated and air-conditioned hallways.
Wellmore is the culmination of years of research and millions of dollars spent in developing wellness programming which helps older adults better manage chronic diseases or recover from negative health events, such as a fall-related fracture.
