What You Should Know About the Longest Day

Raising Awareness through the Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest non-profit organization advocating for those who have been affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. The organization has taken drastic steps to find a cure, as well as place focus on care, support, and research for brain illnesses. Their dedication to raising awareness is evident through their worldwide fundraising events such as The Longest Day.

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, when those impacted by memory-impairing diseases come together and raise awareness through education, fundraising, and support. This month includes June 20, the summer solstice and the longest day of sunshine during the calendar year. Affectionately known as ‘The Longest Day, The Alzheimer’s Association has adopted this day to encourage people across the world to connect and outshine the darkness of Alzheimer’s. Participants are encouraged to choose an activity that they are passionate about, create a fundraiser, and get to work! The Alzheimer’s Association creates an easy portal where participants can register, fundraise, and invite others to join in on the fun.

How We Give Back

Alzheimer’s impacts more than 5 million Americans, and by 2050, the number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million. The largest impact made by Alzheimer’s is within the aging population. Senior Living Communities, Wellmore and Live Long Well Care are proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause that is near and dear to our Members and the teams within our communities. Throughout the year, each of our communities participates in a variety of unique fundraisers (golf events, lunches, auctions, baked good sales, walks and 5k races) to support our goal of $150,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association – Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
